You hear heavy thumping in the attic at night. Or scratching above the bedroom ceiling at dawn. Maybe there’s a strong smell coming from under the deck, or you keep finding your garbage torn apart no matter how you secure it.
Wildlife in the GTA is bold, smart, and well-adapted to urban living. Toronto raccoons are famously clever — they open green bins, tear through soffit panels, and know that your attic is warmer than any tree. Squirrels chew through aluminum fascia and ridge vents like they’re nothing. Skunks dig under porches and decks to den, and the smell when they spray can linger for weeks.
We do humane wildlife removal — one-way doors that let the animal leave but not return, followed by professional-grade exclusion to seal every entry point. No poisons, no leg traps, no harm. Just effective, permanent removal.
We follow Ontario’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. It’s illegal in Ontario to relocate wildlife more than 1km from where it’s captured, and there are specific rules around baby season (spring). We operate fully within the law — humane methods, proper exclusion, and awareness of breeding timelines.
Step 1: Inspection. We identify the species, locate all entry and exit points, assess damage, and check for babies (critical in spring — removing a mother while babies are inside can result in dead animals in your attic and a much bigger problem).
Step 2: One-way door installation. We install a one-way exclusion device over the primary entry point. The animal can leave to forage but can’t get back in. For raccoons, this typically takes 2-5 days. Squirrels are usually out within 1-2 days.
Step 3: Full exclusion. Once the animal is out, we remove the one-way door and permanently seal the entry point with heavy-gauge galvanized steel screening or metal flashing. We also seal every other potential entry point on the roof, soffit, and foundation — because if one spot was weak, others probably are too.
For skunks under decks: Same principle — one-way door on the access point, then steel screening buried along the deck perimeter to prevent re-entry. We also address any attractants (pet food, fallen fruit, unsecured garbage).
Raccoon removal and exclusion typically runs $300-700. Squirrel removal is $250-500. Skunk exclusion is $300-600. Price depends on the number of entry points and the complexity of the job. Attic cleanup and insulation replacement are additional.
Ontario law prohibits relocating wildlife more than 1km from the capture site. Relocation also has poor survival outcomes for the animal. One-way exclusion is more effective and more humane — the animal leaves voluntarily and finds a new den nearby.
We check for babies on every spring and summer call. If babies are present and not yet mobile, we wait until they can follow their mother out. Forcing a separation can result in the mother tearing back in to reach her young — causing more damage — or babies dying inside your attic. Patience here prevents bigger problems.
Not through the same entry point — we seal it with materials they can’t chew or pry open. However, if other weak spots on your roof or soffit aren’t addressed, a different animal could find its way in. That’s why we do a full exclusion, not just the one hole.
Raccoons can carry rabies (rare in the GTA due to vaccination programs, but possible) and raccoon roundworm, which is present in their feces and can be serious if ingested. They also become aggressive when cornered or protecting young. Don’t attempt to handle or corner a raccoon yourself.
